Zuckerberg rejects invite from international committee to give evidence on fake news

<em>Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg has rebuffed another invitation from the UK to answer questions from lawmakers. </em>

Mark Zuckerberg has turned down another yet another request to answer questions from politicians outside of the United States.

On October 31st, the Facebook founder was invited to give evidence before a UK parliamentary committee, with politicians from Canada co-signing the invitation. This unusual show of international cooperation has since been supported by lawmakers from Australia, Argentina, and Ireland, with these five countries forming an “international grand committee” representing some 170 million Facebook users.

Zuckerberg rejected the request on November 2nd, according to UK MP Damian Collins, who made the original invitation in his role as head of the country’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee. In a letter...

By 2009, Chris Hughson was fed up. The Portland area realtor was getting bombarded with spam texts and calls, as many as 10 a day, despite having his number on the Do Not Call Registry. He assumed his phone number had made it to some list, but he wasn’t sure what else he could do. “There’s got to be a way to strike back,” he thought.

Since then, Hughson, who studied law but never practiced, has filed dozens of lawsuits under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), a law that lets consumers take callers to court if they’re called while on the Do Not Call Registry. Spotify Connect speakers set free, no longer require premium subscriptions

Spotify says it’s now letting free-tier subscribers stream music over Spotify Connect-enabled speakers. In order to benefit from the change, hardware manufacturers will need to update to Spotify’s latest SDK, letting you enjoy the ad-supported service over a high-quality Wi-Fi connection instead of Bluetooth.

Spotify’s free tier still has its limitations compared to Spotify Premium, but back in April a redesigned app gave non-paying subscribers a lot more freedom in what they can listen to. Instead of being forced to shuffle tracks across the entire catalog, Spotify gave non-paying users 15 auto-generated playlists which they could freely choose to play songs from, although they still have to listen to ads after every few tracks.

Facebook’s unsend feature will give you 10 minutes to delete a message

Facebook Messenger will soon allow you to delete sent messages up to 10 minutes after you’ve originally sent them. The feature is listed as “coming soon” in the release notes for version 191.0 of Messenger’s iOS client. Compared to the hour Facebook gives you to delete an erroneous WhatsApp message, 10 minutes doesn’t give you too much time to correct yourself. But it’s a lot better than having your mistakes preserved eternally.

Messenger’s “unsend” functionality has been on the cards since April, after Facebook admitted that it had been quietly deleting messages sent by its CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The functionality was first spotted in October during testing.

PUBG now free on Xbox with PS4 version rumored for next month

Microsoft has made Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) free to download and keep on Xbox One today. The software giant notes that the full 1.0 release of PUBG for Xbox is “free for a limited time,” and you can download the game free immediately from the Microsoft Store. Microsoft had originally promised “big news” for PUBG fans at the company’s X018 show on Saturday, and it looks like the free PUBG promotion is part of that. It’s not clear how “limited” this free promotion is, or whether existing PUBG fans will receive in-game credits for paying to test a beta version of the game over the past year. PUBG appeared in Xbox Game Preview last year, priced at $29.99.

AT&T plans to alert over a dozen customers in the next week or two that their service will be terminated due to copyright infringement, anonymous sources told Axios. This is one of the first instances AT&T has ended a customer’s service over piracy issues.

The on-site health clinic at Tesla’s Fremont, California factory prioritized underreporting workplace injuries over proper treatment and safety, according to a new report from Reveal and The Center for Investigative Reporting.
